CAFE J AT JAMES FALLON HIGH SCHOOL

Following the ongoing success of Cafe J at James Fallon, in 2008 we were fortunate to receive a grant for the setting up of a Retail Skills Centre. Students studying the Vocational Educational course Retail Services in Years 11 and 12 are responsible for operating the Cafe where they have the opportunity to gain skills and competencies valued in the workplace. Students work as part of a team to communicate effectively and solve problems associated with operating a small business. The Cafe provides an excellent opportunity for students to be innovative and enterprising, as well gaining confidence in managing their own learning. The Skills Centre comprises three state of the art espresso machines and grinders, we have three cash registers and other related equipment. Most students leave school having acquired Certificate II in Retail Services and are able to take up positions in the retail and/or hospitality areas either as a full time employee or part time whilst undertaking tertiary study.
