DANCE AT JFHS
Dance involves the development of physical skill as well as aesthetic, artistic and cultural understanding. Learning in dance and learning through dance enables students to apply their own experiences to their study of dance. They learn to express ideas creatively as they make and perform dances, and analyse dance as works of art. They think imaginatively and share ideas, feelings, values and attitudes while physically and intellectually exploring the communication of ideas through movement.
At James Fallon an emphasis is placed on performing as a means of achieving this. The Students are given a broad range of performance opportunities such as Riverina and State Dance Festivals, School Spectacular, Albury/Wodonga Eisteddfod, school musicals and local performances. Some of these opportunities include:
1. On Friday 18th February auditions for the 2012 Albury District Senior Dance Ensemble are taking place at the JFHS School Hall. The Ensemble is for talented Dancers who are keen to advance their skill level and perform at the Riverina Dance Festival and the State Dance Festival in Sydney. It is also the only avenue for selection to perform at the annual School’s Spectacular. Information and application forms are available from Mrs Joss or Mrs Duck. Closing date is 16th February.
2. On Monday March 14th a Dance workshop is taking place in Holbrook with Graeme Spencer, a Sydney based performer and choreographer who conducts dance enrichment days for both students and teachers. Places will be very limited and priority given to older or more experienced Dance students. This is an incredible opportunity and further details and costs will be advertised. See Mrs Duck for more information
The school has a magnificent, brand new, fully equipped studio, specifically designed accommodate Dance and Drama. The school is also the Management Centre for the Riverina – Albury District Dance Ensembles.
